Carrefour Shopping Center land reclamation in Limbiate (MILAN)

Reclamation of an old quarry dating back to the 50’s. The excavation area had been refilled over the years with various materials including urban waste and reinforced concrete. Topsoil removed (1) we proceed to the excavation and transportation of all waste to a temporary site (2) for separation of all fine and inert fractions (3). Product was then classified and taken to authorised dump sites (4). Land has been reshaped to desired profile with local excavation-refill.

With main objective now to avoid local settlement in the parking floor, refill - reshaping work was carried on accordingly:

  1. soil compaction with 20 t roller (several passes);
  2. Installation of geotextile barrier with following properties: puncture resistance (2000 N), pure propylene material 100% floc long weave cut structure with no thermal-chemical treatment, UV resistant, 600 g/m2 weight. Textile rolls have been laid down and all seams overlaps hot welded. Textile has been bent vertically for 2m on excavation sides;
  3. A layer of 50 cm. of sand-gravel mixture has been laid on top of the textile with a top layer of larger quarry crushed stone as protection prior to final fill-up;
  4. Penetrometer testing has been ucaried on during all fases to guarantee stability and correct mixing of the new grade.
